well, ini review ane buat karakter paling standar di E:D!,
Marvel JuniorAdventurer KidThe Kid with marvelous story, adventurous nature and still he's the Kid.
IntroductionMarvel is probably the simplest Strength-type Companion known among Epochs thanks to his background and overall stats as well. His main role as a main character in his tale, Marvelous Odyssey, and his skills are just matched his role as main damage dealer in party. His stats are somewhat balanced, making any build is possible for this kid with wooden sword--may it be a pure damage dealer, tank, or even support if equipped well. His innate skill, Focus, is his primary steroid tool where he could concentrate all of his strength to pack more damage for a brief time, as well with his Charge that adds up to 300% attack damage in no time. When wounded he could do some First Aid to recover damages and stands in the battlefield longer. When he is attacked, he could retaliate, dealing a surprising counterattack, and when the turn goes wrong he could cast Speed Up trick to hasten his move or do the notoriously overlooked Play Dead trick, hoping for better tides in next turns while recovering damages. For kids of his age, Marvel is a reliable party that may scale well if well-equipped and well-played.
Short OverviewMarvel, as in the Marvelous Odyssey storyline, is designed to be jack-of-all-trades; you can see the stats and skill set that mainly used as self-boost and self-defense system. With no specific moves (his Focus and Charge only boosts his attack damage), Marvel perhaps is less shiny for most players. However, for a kid of his age, he is a superior one--his decent survivability and easy-to-use, self-explanatory moves makes Marvel as one of the reliable Companions that matches with players whose playstyle demands simple command input and of course, balanced character between power and endurance.
In most cases, many players are willing to replace Marvel's place with another Companion that can be unlocked in mid-stages such as Andy Landwalker, Flay Venonum, Ai Shen Hua, Gate Charles and Vent McGraves. Of course, many thinks that Marvel can't be snowballing well and there is no fancy moves offered by the kid, but behind that boredom there is a good potential within the kid. After all, it's all about player's demand to hold him in the party or replace him with another else with more promising role and/or abilities...
If compared to Lyka, one of durable Companion that also included in Starter Pack, Marvel has more manapool but less healthpoints. Perhaps more manapool means nothing for Marvel whose power lies solely on his normal attack if compared to Lyka whose power lies in combination of skill and normal attack, but if player demands to make use of his skills such as First Aid and Charge, those extensive manapool is a good relief.
Still, in the right hand, Marvel is a considerable Companion to reckon for his endurance and damage potentials, and with correct equipment set, his prowess may comparable with other high-rank Companions of his class.
Pros and ConsPros+ Durable character available at the starting point
+ Higher damage in early levels
+ Cheap damage boost
+ Easy to use; mastering normal attack is more than enough
+ Can be recovery-item-independent
+ Has potential as "semi-carry"
+ Has potential as anti-fighter for his evasion rate from ability
+ Can be hardly targetted by enemies thanks for his ulti
Cons- Lack of fancy moves
- His skills are boring--only buffs and recovery utilities
- Lack of STR points for STR-type Companions
- Lack of overall stat growth
- Low armor rate
BackgroundFor children of his age, he is a really curious and ambitious kid. Marvel dreams to explore every corner of the world just to quench his curiosity for everything in his encounter; may it be peaceful settlements, bustling towns, creepy forests, forgotten ruins, or even the castle of dark lords. By his journey, his will to make a complete encyclopedia is just a little more effort to do. And by his journey, as well, he often gets troubles; he comes often in wrong time and wrong place, making every step more dangerous for a kid of his age. By learning myriad of tricks--ranging from using first aid kit in no time, learning his enemy's conditions, and even playing dead, he is capable to stray away of troubles, getting many experiences and made himself experienced enough to face another peril ahead.
StatsRole: Damage-dealer, Durable
Primary stat: Strength
Epoch description:Marvel Junior, the curious, enegetic kid who plans to make an encyclopedia about everything he discovers.Weapon: - Waster (Melee, Slash)
- Good Sword (Melee, Slash)
- Wonder Sword (Melee, Slash)
HP: 38
MP: 9
STR: 6 [+1.9]
INT: 6 [+1.4]
AGI: 6 [+1.8]
Damage: 16 - 22
Armor: 1.86
Resistance: 25
SkillsFocus"Focusing Marvel's strength, granting additional damage and critical chance for 3 turns."
[Innate Skill]
Grants 25% bonus damage and 10% additional chance to deal 2x critical damage that lasts 3 turns>> Bonus damage based on Marvel's base damage. Can be boosted further by equips and buffs such as Nella's Metabolic Boost and Razh's Warrior Spirit
>> Also can be boosted by auras (such as Satriyaksa's Bolster)
>> Can be cancelled by Aldheimian Headband's Dispel or if Marvel's knocked out
Marvel's tool for his damage steroid. Slight damage boost in early level, but can be a high-dose damage booster in later stages for the buff depends on Marvel's attack damage. Maybe you want to use this skill before attacking for the damage boost grants satisfactory even in the slightest moment. Critical chance rate addition is good, too.
First Aid"Using first aid kit quickly, healing small amount of damage and Marvel still have a chance to do another action."
Cost: 5/6/7/8/9
Cooldown: 1
Heals 20/30/40/50/60 HP to self when casted>> This skill is an Instant-Cast ability; Marvel can do another action if he uses First Aid first
>> Recovers only HP. It won't remove debuffs and/or bad states
This ability makes Marvel less dependant to recovery items. Healing rate of this skill is good enough in early levels, but slowly become less useful as long as he levels up. You might want to level this ability for one or two levels, but if maxed it'll serve a good use for its huge healing rate in higher level may turn the tide in some battles. Once again, level this skill if you can depend less to recovery items.
Charge"Prepares his sword for a powerful blow in next turn that will deal more damage based on his base damage."
Cost: 5
Cooldown: 4
In next turn, Marvel's attack will deal 50%/100%/150%/200%/250% bonus damage. Damage is physical>> Buff won't stack indefinitely; if Marvel has Charge buff already, the buff won't be refreshed
>> Buff lasts 10 turns if Marvel doesn't attack
Marvel's nuke source. In early level, it only gives Marvel slight damage boost. But if he has this skill in higher level or maxed out, it'll be a good source of raw power from the kid and cuts huge chunk of foe's health in single blow. Synergies well with damage boost from equips and buffs, so it'll be a good thing to level this skill to max level.
When casting this skill, Marvel can't act afterwards. Make sure you can make Marvel attack after casting this skill and deliver the damage in next turn
Speed Up"Marvel uses stance that makes him quicker in combat for a brief time. Increases attack speed by 100 for 2 turns."
Cost: 6
Cooldown: 7/6/5/4/3
Grants 100 additional speed for 2 turns>> Buff won't stack indefinitely
>> Can be cancelled by Aldheimian Headband's Dispel or if Marvel's knocked out
Tools for taking faster turn. Grants huge speed boost in early levels, can be compared to Andy's speed. In conjunction of Charge, this skill can aid Marvel to deal huge damage in few turns. Next levels only reduce cooldown, so most players will only take this skill in level 1 because this skill is situational and 7 turns cooldown is enough to prepare his chained moves
Counterattack"When attacked, by chance Marvel will deliver a single blow counter attack that deals half of his base damage. Proc will set even if Marvel dodges the attack or the attack missed."
[Passive Skill]
When attacked, Marvel has 20%/30%/40%/50%/60% chance to deliver attack that deals half of his attack damage>> Works when Marvel is attacked by melee attacks
>> When evading, Marvel also will do counterattack based on this skill's proc
>> Damage dealt depends on Marvel's current attack damage
>> It means, this skill will also get benefit from damage boosts either from equips or buffs
>> This ability also, if Marvel levels his Beginner's Luck or has Focus buff, triggers 2x critical damage proc
Perhaps it's less useful in early levels, more if Marvel takes role in party as primary damage-dealer. His counterattack proc can only be triggered if he's attacked, and damage dealt from this move perhaps lesser than other Companions' counterattack moves such as Drunken Brawler or Counter Edge
This skill synergized well with Focus and Charge, and with Sigil of Paladin this move will be more useful. If you plays him as durable Companion, this skill will dish out damages well and maybe helps you more
Beginner's Luck"Grants small amount of critical chance and evasion rate."
[Passive Skill]
Grants 4%/8%/12%/16%/20% critical chance rate and evasion rate>> Critical chance rate and evasion rate stacks indefinitely
>> Passively, boosts Marvel's Focus critical chance rate based on this ability's level
A lesser but prove useful in most situations even in its early levels. This ability also boosts critical chance rate from Focus and also grants evasion rate that makes Marvel one of good candidate as Anti-Fighter Companion. Either used when Marvel takes durable or damage-dealer role, this skill is a noteworthy one. However, it's a good thing if you take this skill after Marvel reaches level 7 or after maxing Charge out despite of its promising benefit
Play Dead"Set downed pose as if Marvel has been knocked out. He won't be targetted during the state. Grants additional HP regen."
[Ultimate]
Cost: 10/8/6
Cooldown: 4
Puts Marvel into fake dead state, preventing enemies to target him and boosts his HP regen rate for 3 turns.>> Boosts Marvel's regeneration rate by 15 per turn
>> Enemies won't target Marvel in this state
>> However, if there is no standing ally in party, Marvel will be targetted regardless of this state
>> Marvel can still be hit by AoE spells or skills even if he's playing dead
Not a shiny ulti, rarely used in combat but if used well this ability often turn the tide of battle. When playing dead, Marvel will regenerates his health faster thus he'll be less dependant to recovery item, and more if you use it in conjunction with First Aid. Consider that the ability isn't for solo-playing since this will make Marvel actually be less likely to be targetted, not unable to be attacked.
Since it has low cooldown, it has potential to be spammed but still consider his manapool and most of his MP will make more use in other abilities
Equipments
- If you have intention to make Marvel as durable Companion:
A Buckler is enough in early stages. Upgrade them into Miller Shield
Runic Bracer will give Marvel enough stat boosts in mid-stages
Starting from Protection Ring, make Teacher Ring and upgrade it into Runica Wristband in conjunction with Runic Bracer
Adventurer's Gear grants additional overall stat boost for him in mid-stages
- If you have intention to make Marvel as damage-dealer Companion:
Get Sigil of Boar. Later, get Sigil of Wolf and upgrade them into Sigil of Swordsman
Or else, leave Protection Ring for Sigil of Paladin for later levels
If you don't want Sigil of Paladin, go on with Runica Wristband. It's a good equip for the kid
- The rest of equipments is situational depends on your needs.
Dragon Mail is a substitution of Berserker's Raiment. You can grab it for Marvel if you don't have plan to give it to your other Companions in your party
Assassin's Cloak will make Marvel into half-hunter Fighter. Its evasion rate bonus stacks with his Beginner's Luck perk
Underking Amulet, Spellsoak Cloak and Magic Muffler will make the kid more resilient to spellcasters. Also with Spellguard. But, it's situational
All kind of Sigils are welcome, primarily Sigil of Paladin and Sigil of Swordsman
Lifesteal equipments will synergy well with his Beginner's Luck, Focus and Charge skills. Take it if you want
Dragon Hearts series grants Marvel huge stat boosts. It can be another pick for him
Memento Gauntlets series grants Marvel another ability to harness. But, it depends on you to make him into what kind of Companion for your party
- Orbs are situational, if you decided to make one of Memento Gauntlets
- Recommended Runes are Warrior, Golem, and Salamander. Runes that grants MP regen and INT are rejected. Forget about Wizard, Saint, Cockatrice and Mandragora
Special mention to Blackhound, its armor reduction makes Marvel more susceptible to damages. Take it with your own risk.
- There are rejected items for the kid:
Marvel doesn't need Master Staff. It perhaps grants stat boost but the primary effect isn't noteworthy since it doesn't affect Play Dead, his ulti
Every equipments that primarily boost his INT points aren't necessary for Marvel. He won't rely himself to his skills too often
Marvel needs Berserker's Raiment more than Vsio's Guard. INT boost and Vsio's Aura aren't so shiny in Marvel's hand
Stunted Magic from Stratus Ring and/or Warlock's Garb, and Magus Pendant aren't a shiny thing for Marvel since he doesn't need additional source of MP
Regeneration items aren't needed for Marvel, especially MP regen booster. Also even if Aldheimian Headband grants additional speed, the MP regen rate boost isn't necessary for him
Marvel doesn't need cooldown reduction. So, leave Kharas to other spellcasters

In-map quote when player doesn't take Marvel in party- "This place is great! There are many things to explore by myself. But I know the real adventure lies inside the Dungeon..."
- "Hey, do you know where is the nearest place to the Dungeon?"
- "Don't forget to stock yourself', once the merchant said."
Other Notes
- Marvel Junior was designed by shikami, author of Marvelous Odyssey
- His age is 13. Marvel is titled Adventurer Kid for no reason
- Has curious, fribulous, adventurous and cheerful personality, as his Epoch describes him
- His theme, Marvel's Theme, is entitled "Adventurer". The theme is selected from Soleil Musique's music pack.
There is an older version of Marvel's theme that can be heard in the game's BGM folder. The older version is too weird for a battle theme
- His sword, Waster, was named Wasser. Renamed since E:D!1.0 patch 1.0.20
Waster is another name for Wooden Sword, and is weapon's highest level was named Better Sword. Changed into Wonder Sword in E:D!1.1 patch 1.1.04
- Has relationship with Chain Wong and Ran Mao, since they also came from same title
- If Marvel isn't in party, he'll stand next to the pond in front of the tavern. He stands there for all day
- His tale, Marvelous Odyssey, has somewhat cliche plot that suits well with his personality, as a cliche hero of old days JRPG
- Marvel is considered as one of Fun Heroes thanks for his unconditional and plain skills and stats as well. He makes less role since E:D!0.9
There are only two person who can use Marvel well, and one of them is the author of Nina Winhart
- Counterattack and Speed Up are new skills granted to fulfill his empty skill slots
Still, Marvel makes less role even with his new skill set
